Welcome, JPS Montessori Families!

Whether you are a returning family or joining us for the first time, welcome to our Montessori community! We are thrilled to have you with us and look forward to another fantastic school year.

At the JPS Montessori Center, we provide an educational experience that honors the whole child. We are proud to be the only tuition-free public Montessori school in Jackson County, making a high-quality Montessori education accessible to families throughout our community.

Our multi-age classrooms allow students to learn from one another, develop leadership skills, and grow at their own pace—one of the cornerstones of Montessori philosophy. Through individualized instruction, meaningful hands-on experiences, and a nurturing environment, students develop a lifelong love of learning.

Our academic curriculum aligns with Michigan state standards and benchmarks while placing additional emphasis on social-emotional development and 21st-century skills. Learning at JPS Montessori is a process of discovery that fosters self-discipline, concentration, and intrinsic motivation. In our classrooms, students engage in peer teaching, problem-solving, collaboration, and exploration. Instruction is differentiated to meet the diverse needs of all learners.

Our sixth-grade students are dually enrolled at both the JPS Montessori Center and the Middle School at Parkside. This unique opportunity allows them to continue benefiting from the Montessori approach while beginning a thoughtful transition to the middle school environment.

Our school shares a building with the Felician Children’s Center, which provides before- and after-school care, infant care beginning at two weeks of age, and preschool programs for three- and four-year-olds. This partnership allows families with children of multiple ages to meet their childcare and educational needs in one convenient location. It also gives children the opportunity to grow in a familiar, nurturing environment from infancy through sixth grade—an experience rarely found in other school settings.

At JPS Montessori, we are proud of our inclusive and welcoming school culture. We teach students how to make PACEMS—Latin for “peace”—by practicing peaceful, accountable, courteous, mindful, and safe behavior. These values are woven into our daily routines and celebrated throughout the year as part of both our academic and social-emotional curriculum.
